About the Artist: 

Whether it is favorite places, nostalgic food or cherished childhood playthings, Debbie Shirley’s paintings connect to experiences from, New England’s past. We affectionately title her style as nostalgic realism.

Infusing elements of Debbie’s background in typography and graphic design, her work makes a bold statement with strong colors and interesting photographer-esq compositions that focus on nuanced details. All of her works tells tales of forgotten spaces and impactful visual memories.

She began painting neon signs, often unlit, for their eye-catching design and shadow and quickly realized the powerful memories people carried for these disappearing places. That sense of nostalgia runs through all of her work, whether it's a roadside diner or a classic toy – but all being distinctly reflecting on New England’s cultural markers.

Debbie lives on the North Shore of Massachusetts, spending time outdoors and walking endlessly when working at the easel.
