Original NESB Tintype | Still Life Quarter Plate | Tobacco Tin Base
Original NESB Tintype | Still Life Quarter Plate | Tobacco Tin Base
This one-of-a-kind work incorporating a wet plate collodion "still life" tintype "framed" on an early Dill cut plug tobacco tin. The mission of this work is to approach this antique photography craft through a new multi-medium perspective - joining character-rich physical objects with the ancient imagery to create new narrative interpretations.
About the Artist I (your humble shop keep) am a Newburyport based photographer & craftsman that has embraced the nineteenth century wet-plate collodion photography.
I was drawn to the unpredictable creative impact of antique chemistry, weather, light & shadow to create beautiful & nuanced one-of-a-kind images.
Trained by master wet-plater John Coffer, I utilize vintage development methods to create contemporary “ferrotypes” (aka tintypes) using late 1800s lenses and a multitude of customized cameras. All my plates are finished with the original formula for lavender varnish.
Works showcased at New England Sketch Book shop incorporate both historic woods, vintage and reuse objects.
