Jordan Marsh | Charge Coin
Charge coinage was introduced in the 1860s and is the precursor of the charge cards we know today. Boston stores began to offer customers the option to charge items on individual accounts in the later part of the 1800’s .
At its inception it was targeted at “financially comfortable” patrons. It wasn’t until after World War I that stores began to reach out to loyal average shoppers and invite them to open charge accounts.
This beautiful art nouveau style from Boston's iconic Jordan Marsh store was likely from the very early 1900s
Available in both gold plate and raw pewter tones (to note - the original was tin or pewter)
