In celebration of America’s 250th - we are honored to share this significant & historic work entitled “The National Medallion” create by famous pre-civil war electrotyper Samuel H. Black in 1859.
Within its central oval, in the top half, is a recitation of the complete Declaration of Independence. At the center are 4 roundels representing iconic medals recognizing key Revolutionary moments & one representing all of the congressional signers of 1776. Below is a chronological list of major battles & military events from 1774 to 1783 and a list of all presidents from Washington to Buchanan (who was in office when created)
Samuel H Black was a master in electrotype design, and this piece marks the zenith of his expertise in production.
This exquisite copper plaque is mounted in its original wood and velvet frame which greatly enhances its period presentation & rarity.
