Welcoming New Hampshire artist & painter Chris Volpe and his powerful imagery for a series he titles... the "Keepsakes Collection". As an antique photography buff, I was immediately drawn to these diminutive, yet uniquely provocative works.
These "Keepsakes" are made from liquid coal tar and oil paint on treated paper set in repurposed Victorian ambrotype & tintype image frames.
In Chris' words..|
These are “snapshots of the future as it passes.” The medium speaks to the root causes of the human-caused extreme environmental events the viewer is asked to investigate, think about, and remember – the opposite of a digital image.
The Victorian portrait goes back to the origins of photography. For the people who saved these picture-objects from being lost to time, these were tiny treasure-boxes housing a single precious image, often of a departed loved one.
This cased work is appx 3.5" H x 3" W
