Antique carved Maine lobster trap buoy

Unique, early & rare lobster trap buoy from Maine.  Prior to the cylindrical (or even squared) shape well known today throughout New England, these buoys were hand shaved, often with a draw knife. This piece retains the markings of the hand-shaved craftsmanship on multiple sides and is shown in the adjacent images.

Wonderful early piece of the New England coast and the foundational industries that continue to fuel our local economies and communities.

Appx 19" L x 2.25" at its widest point. Contemporary reclaimed/reused trap rope from our very own regional lobstermen.
