These Carrick Bend Sailors Knot are created with repurposed lobster trap lines that are collected directly from lobster docks of Newburyport, Plum Island & Seabrook NH. When the trap lines get old, they save for this artisan's pick-up to make sailor knots and other home décor items.
Each piece is tied by hand from 1 single piece/section of lobster trap line. Knot is tied while rope is wet with salty sea water so that the weave dries tight. Can be used as a trivet, wall ornament, coffee table accent or on a desk for some coastal flare and is both decorative as well as functional. This style is also referred to as a "Carrick Mat" or " Sailors Breastplate"
